So I watched the 2009 Mtv Video Music awards last night…..
If you didnt watch, Lady Gaga wore some of the most unusual outfits I have EVER seen as well as had a performance whos ending left me thinking Lady Gaga is nuts. It may come as a surprise to you, but I was not a very big fan of Lady Gaga before last night, so I decided to do some research and read up on this crazy bitch.
But after reading I came to the conclusion that Lady Gaga is the real deal. Yea I said it. Im even gonna go so far out as to call her the next Madonna.
Here is why I think this. First off, Lady Gaga is seriously talented. Check out the video I posted of her singing Poker Face acoustic, that girl has a voice. Next, Lady Gaga writes her own music and has written for all artists on Akons record label Konvict Records as well as artists like Britney Spears and The Pussy Cat dolls. The reason I hated Lady Gaga before was I thought she was just some dumb girl who the record companies formed into their idea of the ultimate stereotypical pop culture icon but what I came to find out is that her whole act/persona is something she has been doing for years taking inspiration from the most iconic glam rockers. Musicians like Queen and David Bowie. I mean seriously…look at David Bowies costumes, makeup, stage performances then look at Lady Gaga. He was arguably one of the greatest and she is following right in his footsteps. Her strong sexuality and outlandishly sexual interview answers also remind me a lot of Madonna who was extremely open about all things sex. Finally to understand her crazy ass outfits at the VMAs…Lady Gaga has been quoted as saying that she feels “she is always performing” and she holds true to that with her crazy glam rock outfits.
You cant think of her performances on the same level as someone like britney spears…just a pop girl doing a sexy song and dance all written and choreographed for her. Cuz if you do, her performance last night was fuckin nuts. Everything she does is deeper than that, she is a glam rocker and holds true to it at all times on and off stage. her performances have a meaning and a story behind them, they are an entire production, just like classic glam rockers and to really be that, youve got to push the boundries with everything and Lada Gaga does exactly that.
This girl is unique, stylish, and actually has talent. Most likely I still wont listen to her music, but I now have respect for her and understand what she is doing. Honestly…This girl is gonna be big and I think for a long time. She may even come to define pop culture for our generation. So dont sleep on her.
